Honkai: Star Rail is full of unmarked quests and achievements that make exploration fun. Fans have found dozens of secret achievements since the game’s launch, with some tied to dialogue options, party and combat selections, and others to actions taken during missions. Most hidden achievements are in unexpected places and end up as hilarious surprises.
But others are somber, like The Banality of Evil. The achievement uncovers the tragic history of Cyrille the Fool, a child used as a puppet leader and scapegoat by a power-hungry politician until her assassination. It’s also an achievement that requires at least three days to unlock, thanks to its strict time-locked stages.
Vessel Of Mediocrity (Part One)
To unlock The Banality of Evil, players must complete all three parts of Vessel of Mediocrity. The first part is available after clearing the Trailblazer Mission Lying in Rust, the 11th mission in the Jarilo-VI questline In The Withering Wintry Night. Trailblazers must also reach level 18 before they can unlock Vessel of Mediocrity Part One.
Talking to the Mysterious Girl or Cyrille at the plaza to the right of the Space Anchor in Backwater Pass will unlock The Fool’s Box, the armory box puzzle of this questline.
Solve Puzzle One
- Go to the rightmost side of the square puzzle area
- Push the rightmost box up once
- Talk to Cyrille in the cage
Walk out of the puzzle arena. Open the Bountiful Treasure chest next to Cyrille. Then, talk to her to unlock the second Fool’s Box puzzle.
Solve Puzzle Two
- Push the right box once (1)
- Walk to Cyrille in the right cage and talk to her
- Turn around to face the box behind the Trailblazer and push it to the wall. This box should be next to another box and a wall (2)
- Talk to Cyrille in the top cage
Once again, walk out of the puzzle arena to claim the Bountiful Treasure next to Cyrille. After talking to her, Trailblazers must look for Sampo.
Double-Check The Location With Sampo
Talk to Sampo outside the Fight Club in Boulder Town. Progress the conversation until the Go find Cyrille back at Backwater Pass objective unlocks. Every option will lead to this objective.
Meet Sampo at the place where Cyrille was located. Talk to Sampo and exhaust the dialogue. Trailblazers will unlock the entry Cyrille: An Old Diary and finish the first part of Vessel of Mediocrity by the end of the conversation.
Vessel Of Mediocrity (Part Two)
Players must wait until the next daily reset to continue this questline. They must also reach Trailblaze Level 24 and complete Young Guard, the third mission in Jarilo-VI’s questline In The Sweltering Morning Sun.
Once the prerequisites are met, players can find the Mysterious Woman or an aged-up Cyrille. She is located in a square near the southernmost Space Anchor of the Silvermane Guard Restricted Zone. Her pre-quest dialogue tree must be exhausted before Vessel of Mediocrity (Part Two) unlocks.
Solve Puzzle One

- Walk to the open path on the left and walk up until the wall
- Push the box to the right twice until it hits the wall (3 and 4)
- Walk back to the first box, push it down until it’s parallel with Cyrille (5)
- Push the box to the right, then talk to Cyrille (6)
- Walk to the spot where Cyrille was
- Push the box to the left until it hits the wall (7)
- Walk to the entrance of the puzzle arena
- Push the box in front of the entrance upwards twice (8)
- Walk down to the entrance, then to the rightmost wall
- Push the box north of the Trailblazer upwards (9)
- Push the box west of the Trailblazer to the left (10)
- Talk to Cyrille
Walk out of the puzzle arena, claim the Bountiful Treasure, then talk to Cyrille until the second puzzle unlocks.
Solve Puzzle Two

- Push the first box to the right three times until it hits the wall (1)
- Turn north, push the box up once (2)
- Talk to Cyrille
- Turn south, push the box down once (3)
- Talk to Cyrille
- Walk to where the first Cyrille stood
- Turn west, push the box the Trailblazer faces until it hits the wall (4)
- Talk to Cyrille
Claim the Bountiful Treasure outside the puzzle box arena and talk to Cyrille.
Talk To Dunn
Video Guide:
Afterward, teleport to the Space Anchor used to teleport to the Silvermane Guard Restricted Area. Turn around to face Captain Dunn and report the incident. Players must wait for one daily reset until Dunn sends a message asking for their presence at the same spot.
Vessel Of Mediocrity (Part Three)
Video Guide:
Trailblazers who finished Silent Galaxy in the Jarilo-VI chapter In The Sweltering Morning Sun can find Cyrille as the Guardian Shadow at the peak of Everwinter Hill. They must then talk to Cyrille until the last Fool’s Box puzzle is unlocked.
Solve The Puzzle

- Push the box north of the arena entrance upwards twice (1)
- Push the box in front of Cyrille’s cage to the right once (2)
- Talk to Cyrille
- Walk behind the box in front of where Cyrille stood
- Push the box upwards twice until it’s against the wall and between two boxes (1)
- Walk down, then to the right, until there are boxes north, east, and south of the Trailblazer
- Push the box south of the Trailblazer down once (2)
- Talk to Cyrille
- Walk to where Cyrille stood
- Face north, push the box upwards twice (1)
- Talk to Cyrille
- Walk up to the box in (1)
- Push the box in front of the northern Cyrille to the right
- Talk to last Cyrille
The achievement The Banality of Evil is immediately unlocked after solving the last Fool’s Box. Players can then unlock The Birth of Tragedy after claiming the Precious Treasure next to Cyrille. They can leave afterward, but players who want to learn the complete truth about Cyrille can talk to her again.
Defeat Cyrille
Trailblazers can leave Cyrille to stay as a shade forever. They can also put her to rest by defeating her in battle. By doing so, she can pass on and leave a relic behind, which players can take to someone knowledgeable about Belobog’s history.
Bring Cyrille’s Relic To Manya
Cyrille’s relic can be taken to Manya. Manya is an administrator who can be found next to Serval’s shop, Neverwinter Workshop, in the Administrative District of Jarilo-VI. She is also the same NPC who accepts Misdelivered Letters from mailboxes around the Administrative District in exchange for credits.
Honkai: Star Rail is available now for Android, iOS, and PC. A PlayStation 5 version launches in Q4 2023.
