When superheroes need help, they band together to form superhero teams and groups. DC Comics has introduced numerous teams over the years to fight the forces of evil. Some feature the most well-known superheroes DC Comics has to offer while others feature lesser-known heroes getting their chances at a bigger role.
The first superhero group DC introduced was the Justice Society of America during the Golden Age of comics. Since then, dozens of superhero groups have taken on the mantle to save the DC universe. All fight for the best interest of their Earth and all are powerful enough to take down the villains.
10 The Freedom Fighters
On Earth X, the Nazis won World War 2, and the regime grew in power, leading to the formation of the Freedom Fighters. Led by Uncle Sam, the team featured members like Human Bomb, the Ray, and Doll Man.
This group of heroes personifies patriotism, especially their leader. They are determined to take down the Nazis that rule their Earth and protect the rights of the people.
9 The Authority
The Authority is the most Machiavellian of all the superhero teams at DC. While many groups feature heroes with a “No Kill” policy, the Authority will stop at nothing to reach their goals. They are more anti-hero than hero because of their willingness to do bad things to bad people.
The Authority believes in peace by any means necessary. Featuring superheroes like Midnighter, Apollo, and the Doctor, the Authority sets its own terms for saving the world.
8 Teen Titans
The sidekicks become the main heroes in the Teen Titans. The team has included noted superhero sidekicks like Robin, Kid Flash, and Crush over the years along with some of the lesser-known sidekicks.
The team battled threats while teaching the ropes to the younger heroes. These heroes pack quite the punch and can be very powerful, but many times they lack the discipline that comes with the experience of the main heroes.
7 The Outsiders
When Batman and Superman had a falling out, Batman left the Justice League and founded his own team, the Outsiders. He worked with mid-level heroes like Black Lightning and Katana who would do things his way rather than by Superman’s book.
Most of the heroes, outside of Batman, weren’t ready for the big leagues. However, teaming up with Batman gave the rest of the Outsiders a taste of top-level action that led to them becoming more respected heroes, themselves.
6 Batman Incorporated
While the Outsiders may have been Batman’s attempt at his own Justice League, Batman Incorporated was Bruce Wayne’s way of franchising Batman’s operation. Batman may be a vigilante crime fighter, but Bruce Wayne is a businessman. Batman travels the world teaming up with heroes that share Batman’s code.
This group of superheroes includes El Gaucho, Man-of-Bats, and Nightrunner. Batman Incorporated demonstrates how much good an army of Batmen could do for the world at large.
5 Doom Patrol
The Doom Patrol is the resident misfit team of the DC Universe. Featuring such crazy members as Robotman, Elasti-girl, and Mento, the Doom Patrol features heroes that all suffered some horrible accident that gave them their superpowers. Doom Patrol is known for taking on some of the more bizarre threats DC has to offer.
The Doom Patrol members share a quirky exterior but also complement each other perfectly. But they are perfect to defend the weirdest corners of the universe.
4 The Legion of Super-Heroes
Jumping to the future and the Legion of Super-Heroes is keeping things safe in the 31st century. The Legion is an expansive group of teenage superheroes, even bigger than the Teen Titans. But these teens do more than just monitor the 31st century as they will protect any part of the timeline.
Inspired by Superman, this team has saved numerous points in history. The Legion of Super-Heroes is looking out for the past, present, and future.
3 Green Lantern Corps
Green Lantern is an important part of some of the best superhero teams in the DC universe, but any Green Lantern is ultimately loyal to the Green Lantern Corps. The team of Green Lanterns is responsible for protecting 3,600 sectors of the known universe.
The Corps has produced some of the greatest heroes of all time like Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, and John Stewart, but it has also produced the Sinister Sinestro who went evil and formed the Yellow Lanterns as an antithesis to the green lanterns. The Green Lantern Corps is the most powerful superhero team DC offers.
2 Justice Society of America
The Justice Society of America was the very first superhero team DC produced for the world. Formed during World War 2, the Justice Society has its own Golden Age versions of Green Lantern and Flash. It also has such vaunted heroes as Dr. Fate and the Spectre. The Justice Society kept the world safe during the worst global conflict in history.
This team served as an inspiration for every superhero team that has come in the years since. Almost every new hero that has served on a team since then has been inspired by the Justice Society. The JSA walked, so other teams could run.
1 Justice League of America
The obvious choice for the greatest DC superhero team is still the best. The Justice League of America brought together all the greatest heroes from one of the most successful times for comics. Featuring Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and its own versions of Green Lantern and Flash, the Justice League was always ready to protect the world from supervillains.
It is the deepest bench in the history of DC superhero teams and took on the toughest villains either on their own or forming their own evil super group. This is easily the most powerful group that only has one Green Lantern.
