The Star Wars universe is enormous, and with so many planets to visit and so many of them in need of rescuing from various kinds of evil dictatorships, it is important to have a fast ship. Many of the ships throughout the history of Star Wars seem to be quick when it counts, and are able to travel in hyperspace quickly enough to outrun their enemies.
However, there are other considerations than just hyper-speed capability. While some ships may have good hyperdrives, they might be easily caught on all other occasions. Both matter, since going to hyper-speed takes time and can’t always be accomplished, forcing the regular speed of the ships to the fore.
7 The Millennium Falcon
Special mention has to go to the ship that Han Solo deemed the fastest in the galaxy. Yes, the Millennium Falcon made the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs, and despite being a “hunk of junk,” it is reliably able to outrun various enemy forces. However, the Falcon is an old ship. Despite still being one of the fastest known vessels, it has slowed down, especially when directly compared to other ships in the franchise.
Between various pieces of Star Wars media, including the sequel trilogy, new technologies have come to the fore and the Millennium Falcon has regressed on the list of the fastest Star Wars starships. It will always be the most iconic and beloved of the ships in the franchise though, and has contained many of the best pilots in the history of the galaxy.
6 The Scimitar
A ship used for evil purposes throughout the Star Wars franchise, the Scimitar was the private ship of the mysterious Darth Maul and was later re-purposed after his apparent demise by his mentor, Darth Sidious. This stealthy ship was a former luxury ship modified to be both speedier and quieter than the original models.
While the Scimitar isn’t a battleship and was purely rebuilt for the speed of conveying those within, it remains one of the best-known examples of such a ship, particularly one that has appeared in the Star Wars movie franchise.
5 First Order TIE Interceptor
As is to be expected, the newer First Order craft that was similarly modeled to the Imperial era TIE Fighters were an upgraded, speedier version of those light craft. One of the fastest models of any single-pilot fighter in the Star Wars Universe, the First Order TIE Interceptor was seen throughout the sequel trilogy.
One of the big changes which significantly limits the impact of the Interceptor was the lack of a hyperdrive, allowing the First Order to mass produce these craft for their less capable pilots. Despite that, over short distances and especially within planetary atmospheres, Interceptors could challenge any of the Resistance ships in combat consistently.
4 Eta-2 Actis Jedi Interceptor
This is another Interceptor ship that was used by Jedi Knights and was specially designed for them during the Clone Wars and the Republic Era. Jedi, particularly Generals, were always given the best of the best, their Force sensitivity needing to be matched by the capabilities of their ships to travel as fast as possible.
This Interceptor was used by the likes of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker in the Battle of Coruscant, showing that even the best fighters in the Jedi Order would use this style of ship in their battles against the Separatist Forces.
3 RZ-2 A Wing
There have been various starships used throughout the Star Wars franchise by the Republic, Rebel Alliance, and Resistance, the various “good guys” of the three trilogies, to try and keep up with the sheer force of numbers that always seem to oppose them. The A-Wing has consistently provided speed to match whatever opposes it through different eras and in whatever media format, even the LEGO Star Wars games.
The RZ-2 is the most advanced of the A Wing class, being from the Resistance Era. No matter how many fans may prefer designs of certain ships from the previous trilogies inside the Star Wars saga, there is no doubt that technology moved forward with the galaxy and the RZ-2 was just a speedier ship than many that came before.
2 TIE Vendetta
Of course, even though the generic First Order starships are outclassed by the high-level Resistance ones, the private ship of their best pilot, Kylo Ren, was one of the very fastest. The TIE Vendetta is a beautifully designed ship that had huge capabilities and was exclusively flown by Kylo Ren throughout the sequel trilogy.
On his own, Kylo Ren was able to damage huge Resistance ships with the Vendetta, as it was entirely uncatchable by any of the ships that the Resistance had at their command. With the way he ended up dying, it is unknown if a pilot with his level of skill could ever have been beaten in a ship such as the Vendetta.
1 The N-1 Starfighter
In spite of the Resistance and First Order era of Star Wars being the most modern version of the universe that has been seen thus far, there is a ship that has proven itself much faster than anything previously seen in the Star Wars franchise, one which appeared in The Mandalorian.
The N-1 Starfighter that Din Djarin gets after losing the Razor Crest was heavily modified by Din and Peli Motto together. After being modified, this N-1 Starfighter can travel at sub-light speeds without utilizing its hyperdrive, making it the fastest vehicle ever seen in the history of the Star Wars franchise.
